A True Painting Adventure

Chattahoochee River Adventure

These past few weeks I have enjoyed updating my nephew, Erik, and his mom on the progress of my current landscape painting entitled, Chattahoochee River Adventure. This new oil painting features Erik enjoying an early morning kayaking trip down Georgia’s beautiful Chattahoochee River.

This sunny day scene is brilliantly colorful! I am excited about the dark contrast of the tree lined river against the bright light from the morning sky. The drama in this scene fuels my adventurous spirit with every brush stroke! I am still in the underpainting stage of this ambitious 20″ x 24″ canvas, testing colors and playing with the contrast of bright colors against dark shadows.

In this way, day by day, this landscape scene is providing a true oil painting adventure! It has also become a family project, being cheered on by all! Should a number of days go by without an update photo and text message, I am certain to hear the question “how is Erik’s painting coming along?”

If you enjoyed my August 23rd journal entry entitled, Chattahoochee River Adventure about the inspiration for the start of this canvas, now you know the answer too!

Thank you for visiting with me in my artist’s journal, On The Easel. I am happy that I finally have a photograph of my progress with Chattahoochee River Adventure to share with you too! (Article image, detail from underpainting of Chattahoochee River Adventure, Oil on Canvas, 20″ x 24″.)

Be well, Karen LaFontaine
