Chattahoochee River Adventure

A True Painting Adventure

A brilliant blue summer sky, rolling white clouds, the peaceful atmosphere of the start of a sunny day on Georgia’s Chattahoochee River, contain all the ingredients for capturing a special moment in time.

Add to our picture, the adventurous spirit of a young boy kayaking toward the horizon, and I have all the beautiful inspiration I require for my current landscape painting entitled, Chattahoochee River Adventure.

I tone my new 20×24 inch canvas with the earth tone, burnt sienna, a favorite of old master painters. I gently lay down my image in graphite to provide for the placement of the major elements in our scene. I ensure our focal point, my young and eager adventurer, is angled toward the horizon. He beckons us to engage and enjoy this fun filled adventure with him.

I am excited as I open my paint box and begin the selection of my palette! It is time to paint all the vibrant colors of this wondrous Georgia scene, complete with a reflection on the water. For many months, I have treasured this photograph of my nephew, Erik, carefully tucked away in my “to paint” file. Finally, this exciting day has arrived! What a joyous adventure it will be to paint him! And, even more so, to send him updates on the many stages of this very special painting.

If you love reliving family adventures as much as I do, I invite you to visit my online gallery often to enjoy the many scenes that my family has inspired me to paint! Perhaps, you too, will see a favorite memory in Atlantic Sunrise or in Mountain Stream Beauty, North Georgia and remember your special family adventures too!

Thank you for visiting with me in my Artist’s Journal, On The Easel. I love sharing the inspiration for my current landscape painting with you! (Article image is detail from under painting of Chattahoochee River Adventure, canvas 20×24 inches.)

Be well, Karen LaFontaine
