Mr. Skipper Has His Wings

Detail from Mr. Skipper oil painting in progress by Karen LaFontaine

Mr. Skipper, The Butterfly

Mr. Skipper, The Butterfly, has his wings. They are glistening in the evening light of my painting studio. His silver and gold markings provide an exciting contrast against his dark colors. He is vibrantly beautiful. He is regal. He is “captured” on canvas – in the moment in time when he happened to visit me on a cool summer evening intent on enjoying my flowering lantana.

Looking at my painting, I can remember the evening he arrived on a summer breeze and I feel happy. The abundant beauty we share in our world can be enjoyed – for all time – if we slow down for a moment to observe. This is one reason I love to paint – to capture special moments, the very moments I would like to last forever.

As Mr. Skipper dries, I quietly continue preparing canvases. I am enjoying his presence. I wink at him. He winks back. I remember the evening I photographed him. I imagine there are many more special moments to capture. My exploration of nature’s vast treasures through oil painting continues as the daylight dims.

I invite you to join me in a celebration of nature by visiting my online gallery to view and purchase the special moments in time you most treasure! In addition, remember to return for Mr. Skipper’s debut in my online gallery. Captured for all time – he will soon be there for you to enjoy too!

Thank you for visiting with me in my Artist’s Journal, On The Easel. I love sharing today’s canvas, currently On The Easel with you!
