My Painter’s Palette

My Painter’s Palette is where magic happens!

My approach for a fun, creative, and colorful painting afternoon: 1) never paint my photograph exactly, 2) invent a reason to use lots of blue! 3) don’t trip over my sweet dog napping near my easel!

This morning I told my sweet, sweet beagle that I am painting a picture of him! He was not surprised to learn that his mama decided to paint him sleeping on a blue dog bed! Today, I am happy to share that the selection of my palette, as well as my underpainting, is continuing along quite nicely for one of my newest oil paintings, entitled Sweet Dreams.

My selected palette for this oil painting includes both my favorite blues, Ultramarine and Cobalt. My painter’s palette also includes colors often found in my paintings: Viridian, Cadmium Orange, Yellow Ochre Pale, Cadmium Yellow Light, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, and White.

I hope you enjoy this deliciously sweet painting update as much as I do! I know I feel inspired to keep painting through the day. Most, especially with the encouragement of my little fuzzy sidekick, napping at my feet!

Thank you for visiting with me in my artist’s journal. I love sharing today’s sweet, and furry painting, currently On The Easel with you! (Article image, underpainting of Sweet Dreams, 11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel.)

Be well, Karen LaFontaine
