My Puppy Star

Snoopy’s Story

My sweet dog is battling cancer, and he is resting today after receiving treatment from his primary care veterinarian. He is feeling quiet and a bit subdued, and yet curling up tucked away in his dog bed is not his nature. He insists on being near me, on sleeping on the floor nearby – just a few doggy steps from me. I marvel at his big-hearted nature. Even now, when he requires care, he remains steadfast on being my ever-faithful companion, providing his loving company, always.

The drama that comes with care taking, for my now senior canine companion, is on full tilt this week. I dropped him off at his vet’s office one morning, remembering to provide no food or water. I then, waited anxiously, for the call to retrieve him. Hours later, my husband and I carried our sweet baby back into our home and deposited him in his favorite bed – where he did not stay. Remembering that he was due for a meal, he heroically hobbled to the kitchen, where he sat and waited for his dinner bowl.

My sweet Snoopy, his courage and tenacity through difficult days continually inspire me. I love him ever more. Without complaint, he pushes forward through difficult moments, overcoming the next challenge, and the next, and finally a peace filled looking nap. My heart stirs as I watch him recuperate. I envision, one day, the courage in my own heart might grow as enormous as his!

Snoopy, you are My Puppy Star, my best friend, my faithful companion, my art studio mascot, napping under my easel while I paint! You are my inspiration for forging ahead, my wonderful morning walk companion. You are my blogging buddy, always waiting on me while I type. I do love being an artist… more so, I love being your Snoopy Mama!

Thank you for visiting with me in my Artist’s Journal, On The Easel. I love sharing the real time story of my sweet source of courageous inspiration, filling both my life and my art with magic everyday, with you! Article image, detail from Sweet Dreams, 11 x 14 inches, oil on linen panel.

Be well, Karen LaFontaine
