Sweet Dreams

I love my dog most… when he is sleeping!

This is a recent photograph of my sweet, sweet, beagle boy, age twelve. My to paint file is brimming over with pictures of him.

Most days, when I paint, my little beagle is intent on keeping me company. He excels at this by napping nearby. Some days we actually compete for the same patch of sunlight. I want to paint in the natural light to see the true colors of my palette. My sweet dog wants to sunbathe in any patch of sunlight hitting the floor – even if his sunbathing centers him right near my easel!

One evening, after a day of painting, I snapped this photograph! I was excited to capture this special moment in time because I love the way my sweet boy is resting his head on his paw!

If you knew the extent to which my dog is paw shy – meaning do not touch the paws! – then you understand the smile this photo brings to my heart! …He sleeps, paw tucked under his chin for safe keeping! This sweet photograph truly sums up my faithful companion and inspires me to begin a new canvas.

Thank you for visiting with me in my artist’s journal. I love sharing the beginning of today’s sweet and furry painting, currently On The Easel with you! (Article image, day one of underpainting of Sweet Dreams, 11×14 inches, oil on linen panel.)

Be well, Karen LaFontaine
